About the city of Santiago
Santiago de Compostela, commonly known as simply Santiago, is a city in the north west of Spain, and capital of the Galicia region. Best known for being where the cathedral that is the end of the St. James Way is found, a major Catholic pilgrimage undertaken by hundreds of thousands each year.
The city's religious importance is also the source of much of its tourism, as many who do not travel the St. James Way nevertheless travel to the city by plane or car to visit its sights, both religious and otherwise. Santiago also has a historical city centre that was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
