Jaxport's Dames Point Cruise Terminal was built in 2003. The Port of Jacksonville is a seaport on the St. Johns River and Jacksonville port parking is an important service provided for ferry and cruise passengers. The port plays an important role in the local economy and with the port receiving large investments both as a Cruise terminal and a commercial port, it is fast becoming one of the most important ports on the East coast.
Currently, the 2,052-passenger cruise ship Carnival Fascination offers cruises to Freeport and Nassau and five-day cruises to Half Moon Cay and Nassau all year round. The terminal opens to embarking passengers at 11 a.m. Carnival Cruise Line began Jacksonville service in 2004, when the Carnival Miracle was christened at the Port of Jacksonville.
