One year on from the start of ParkCloud’s partnership with Italian national rail operator Trenitalia and ParkCloud looks back at what has been a successful start to the partnership.
In 2012, more than 38 million passengers travelled on Trenitalia’s Freccia high-speed services alone, illustrating the potential customer base. Following a call to tender in summer 2013, ParkCloud won a potentially six year-long contract to offer online parking reservations for Trenitalia travellers, helping to improve their journeys even before they set off.
October 2013 saw the launch of a new, dedicated parking portal: ParcheggiTrenitalia.it. Seamlessly integrated into Trenitalia’s website, ParcheggiTrenitalia.it offers passengers the opportunity to compare and reserve car park spaces at stations initially across Italy, and also in neighbouring countries Austria and France. Car parks within walking distance of large international stations such as Roma Termini, Venezia Mestre and Milano Centrale were made available to book online, alongside those at important local stations such as Bergamo, Padua and Tuorin.
Starting with just principal locations for the rail operator, ParkCloud has expanded coverage to include over 36 different locations which encompasses the majority of Trenitalia’s high-speed network. Car parks have been selected based on their proximity to stations, and exclusive discounts are available to passengers who have booked a Trenitalia train ticket.
Over the course of 2014 ParcheggiTrenitalia.it was redesigned to better fit the Trenitalia image, and to integrate responsive design, allowing customers to access it easily on computers, tablets and smartphones.
Speaking about the contract, Mark Pegler, Managing Director of ParkCloud stated, “Working with the national rail company of Italy is a significant milestone for ParkCloud, and we are very pleased with the results from our partnership so far. The parking service available to Trenitalia’s passengers ensures a smooth start and finish to any train journey, maintaining quality service at a great price.”
With a growing number of partners, ParkCloud has gained vital knowledge about how parking fits into the bigger picture of customer service and revenue generation. To date the company is partnered with some of the biggest names in the travel industry and a number of airlines including Ryanair, Wizz Air and Brussels Airlines.
