At present, there are three terminals: 1, 2 and 1A which is a provisional terminal predominantly used for low-cost airlines. Vienna International Airport also has a priority terminal for frequent flyers and a VIP terminal for passengers with additional security requirements.
In 2004, Vienna Airport started building a new terminal called Skylink in order to increase capacity for passengers and accommodate larger aeroplanes. Skylink, also known as 'Terminal 3' or 'Austrian Star Alliance Terminal Check-in 3', opened to passengers in June 2012.
Vienna International Airport, also known as Flughafen Schwechat amongst German speakers, is the largest airport in Austria, hub of Austrian Airlines and its subsidiaries and of low-cost carrier Niki.
The airport is located in Schwechat, approximately 18 kilometres southeast of Vienna's city centre. As Vienna airport's current two-runway system is reaching its capacity limits, a third runway (11R/29L) is planned to effectively handle anticipated long-term developments in international aviation.
